영화 감상을 대폭 줄이고 독서에 집중할 계획이다. 내게 주어진 시간이 무한하다면 죽치고 앉아 영화만 개구호흡 할 때까지 보겠지만 . . .

이것이 2월에 들어서는 나의 계획이었지만, 13일 현재 매사에 의욕을 다 잃어서 독서고 음악 감상이고 다 답보 상태이다.

이 달에 접한 음악

1. [VA] - The Rough Guide to Avant-Garde Japan [World Music Network, 2021]

전제부터가 모순적이다--아방가르드 가이드? 기성 관념을 싸그리 부정해 결국 모든 걸 불연속적 모나드로 인식되게끔 개혁한 움직임에 어떻게 포괄적 가이드란 게 성립할 수 있는가? 제목이야 어쨌든, 여기 실린 모든 음악이 야기 미치요의 "Rouge" 처럼 리드미컬한 자신감을 보장했다면 유용했을 것이다. 하지만 나머지 음악은 두세 번 청취를 거치면 결국 배경 잡음으로 전락하게 되는 게 현실이다. Choice Cut: Michiyo Yagi: "Rouge"

2. [VA] - Indaba Is [Brownswood, 2021]

'South African townships were historically cosmopolitan places. Apartheid confined all classes in the same impoverished locations. Migration from across the country and the region meant kasi residents commanded many musical languages. Church music, European classical music, the latest US jazz LPs and Liverpool pop tunes from offshore radio stations fed the mix. The same woman could sing Handel in church on Sunday, traditional lyrics by the evening fireside, local and overseas standards on a community hall bandstand and songs of resistance on a march. There never was just one sound. And it’s the flowers from all those roots, and more, that Indaba Is has harvested. Questions about lineage, community and spirit thread through the tracks – not just communities of descent or language, but the communities being built now through collective creation.' ~B+

이 달에 접한 영화

1. Alfonso Cuarón - Roma [2018]

여성의 임신과 출산이라는 두 개의 큰 사건을 방점으로 다양한 테마를 팽창력 있게, 그러면서도 극적인 과장 없이 풀어가는 영화. 마치 우수한 소설을 읽은 것 같은 작품의 풍요로움은 더없이 존중 또 존중. 하지만 시네마는 공상, 꿈, 환상을 밑천으로 굴러가야 한다고 믿는 나 같은 관객이라면, 그런 게 끼어들 여지가 거의 없는 이런 영화는 오래지 않아 마음속을 표류하게 될 것이다. A-

2. Stanley Kubrick - Barry Lyndon [1975]

기계에게 감정을 가르칠 순 없기 때문에 큐브릭 작품들은 감성적인 면에선 늘 아쉬웠고 그건 이 영화에도 통용되지만 기계가 촬영한 듯 매 프레임은 정밀하게 계산된 화폭에 담긴 그림 같고 기계적으로 담백한 이야기 전개에 187분이라는 길이에도 불구 매우 보기 편하고 즐거운 작품이었다고 생각. A-
